(Laodong) – At the current workshop organised by Forest Trends and Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association (VIFORES) in Ha Noi experts raised concerns on current problems of the Vietnam – China timber trade. Most of the exported products are raw material with low revenue. Among exported products, most round and sawn timber is originated from countries in Sub-Mekong Region and is mainly precious species. Vietnam is currently exporting wood materials to China, at the same time importing semi-processed and finished wood furniture.

(LaodongThudo) – According to Dong Ky Wood Association, the amount of village products sold on the Chinese market has decreased to 1/2 – 2/3 of that in previous years. Together with the drop in export, the price has decreased significantly. 80% of households currently express their wish to explore new markets such as EU, US, etc. which have completely different demands and requirements on wood materials and product design. Accordingly, in the coming time, Dong Ky is moving away from the “usual-business”, aiming at sourcing legal timber.

(Vietnamnews) – In order to provide the updates on and raise the awareness on sustainability and related regulations on timber legality, which are applicable for rubberwood, Vietnam Rubber Association and NEPCon organised an introductory workshop on timber legality on 14 October 2015 in Ho Chi Minh City. Participants were enterprises working in the rubber sector. At the workshop, Dr Tran Thi Thuy Hoa, Office Manager of VRA said: “Rubberwood provides additional income for rubber growers after 20 years harvesting rubber latex. It is important to prove the legal source of rubberwood so that Vietnam rubberwood and its wooden products are widely consumed and exported to other big overseas markets.”
