Forestry sector aims to boost productivity

(Sai Gon Giai Phong) – The forestry sector has taken measures to restructure the industry by improving productivity and enhancing the value of forest plantation areas. Nguyen Ba Ngai, Deputy Director of the Viet Nam Administration of Forestry, said the forestry sector’s production value had an annual growth rate of 6.57 per cent in recent years compared to 5.03 per cent per year in the 2010-12 period. Vo Dai Hai, at the Vietnamese Academy of Forest Sciences, said the country’s plantation forest area has increased from 1.92 million ha in 2012 to nearly 3.7 million ha last year.

Additional funding approved for project supporting forestry households in Central Vietnam

(Quang Ngai Newspaper) – The project on supporting forestry households in Central Vietnam, implemented by Finnish Agri-agency for Food and Forest Development (FFD) and AgriCord, have just received an additional 716.5 million VND funding. The project is implemented from May 2014 to May 2016, aiming at promoting models for sustainable forest management and PEFC forest certification.

(Quang Tri Newspaper) – Quang Tri General Trade Company has provided 7,648 Euro for audit fees over a five year period to participating households. This is part of the memorandum on cooperative agreement between the company and the union of household certificate holders, to expand the group certification for acacia plantation in the province of Quang Tri. The total area expected to achieve certification is 1,368 ha owned by 517 households.
