Belgium facing legal action for breaking illegal logging law
(ClientEarth) – The European Commission has launched legal action against Belgium because it is breaking the EU’s law against illegal logging. This is the first time the Commission has taken action against an EU Member State for not enforcing the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) properly.
Preventive measure issued against two Dutch companies for breaching the EU timber regulation
The Netherlands food and consumer product safety authority (NVWA) has issued a preventive measure against two companies which place teak from Myanmar on the European market. The companies import teak from Myanmar and do not comply with the EU timber regulation. The companies must pay a sum of money for every teak shipment.
Lessons and inspiration from Indonesia’s FLEGT experience
(Flegt.org) – Indonesia was not the only one to celebrate its FLEGT licensing launch last year. Other tropical timber exporters engaged in the FLEGT VPA process en route to licensing welcomed the news too. They see Indonesia’s success not just as inspirational, but providing lessons from which they can learn.

22nd -23rd September 2017: The legality of timber and timber products was a recurrent theme at the Fourth World Wood-Based Panels Conference that took place from 22-23 September 2017, in Linyi, China. The China National Forest Products Industry Association (CNFPIA) formally released China’s timber legality verification standard at the opening of the Conference.
